WebJun 20, 2024 · Latin was still pretty big in the UK in the ’60s and ’70s, although I opted for German instead, on the grounds that I was unlikely to find a pen-pal in Ancient Rome. My later interest in Latin is a combination of recreational and self-defence – life as a medical student was much easier if you had some grasp of Latin and Greek etymology.
