This is a red crested cardinal, taking a break on a tree trunk at a beach park during the spring season. He was very inquisitive and didn’t mind me taking so many pictures of him. Males have bright red feathers and a black mask, females have duller colors and are more pale brown with some reddish coloring. Both males and females are easily recognized by their “mohawks” and reddish orange beaks.
